Planning & Design Meetings Planning Meeting 12/2/2014 - MinutesPALO ALTO HIGH SCHOOL Palo Alto Unified School District PROGRAM MEETING NOTES DATE: 2 December 2014 SUBJECT: BUILDING 500 RENOVATION (LIBRARY) Student Activities ATTENDEES: Matt Hall, PAUSD Tom Hodges, fs3/Hodges Erwin Lee, DLM The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the program needs of the Student Activities. The following are the highlights of the meeting: 1. The architect presented the current floor plan as well as a sketch model to describe the Activities space. 2. The primary change from the previous floor plan is that the Activities space increased in area. The area was reallocated from the “Gallery” which the Building 500 user group determined was larger than necessary. The additional area creates an alcove for cabinets and storage. The curved demising wall between the Activities and the Gallery should be a ‘tall’ wall within the double height space. It was suggested that the ‘tall’ wall could be articulated with small, fixed windows to let in natural light from the skylights in the Gallery. 3. Noise isolation between Activities and the adjacent spaces should be considered. 4. The door to the storage room can be a single door in lieu of a double door. The door should be placed as far to one end of the storage room as possible in order to maximize the uninterrupted wall surface in the classroom. 5. The main teaching wall will be on the east wall and should have a 16 ft. marker board. All other wall surfaces should be tack panel. The classroom space is under the lower ceiling portion of the building. 6. A ceiling mounted projector and large, pull down projection screen is preferred over a ‘smartboard’. 7. It was noted that the window area facing the quad cannot be continuous because of an existing utilities chase that must remain. However, it was acceptable to have windows on side in lieu of one continuous window. 8. Window coverings will be provided but it was mentioned by the user that glare would not be an issue. 9. The exterior door should be relocated so that it is in the back of the classroom and circulation into the room does not occur in front of the teaching wall.
