LI BRARY PRE-PLANNING MEETING
DATE: 9 February 2012, 3:30-5:00 pm
SUBJECT: Library Pre-Planning Meeting No.2
ATTENDEES: See attached sign-in sheet
The following are the highlights of the meeting:
1. RK distributed a sketch indicating her initial thoughts on how she would like to see
her library configured. No discussion followed regarding her sketch.
2. The Student Activities is currently approximately 740 SF. It was noted by Matt Hall
(MH) that approximately 1,000 SF would be adequate.
• Would like to have access to exterior space
• Would like to be near the administration area
Temporary Library Location Discussion:
3. After looking at the location of the new classroom building, Rachel Kellerman (RK)
noted that it is very important to have the existing lockers relocated. With the library
cut through eliminated, the area that the lockers occupy will become a heavily used
student circulation route.
4. RK indicated that she would be willing to split up the library program among various
spaces in lieu of remodel an existing space for the interim period. She said that she
could operate her program out of several relocatable classrooms if necessary. She
would also consider the existing Student Center/Cafeteria as an option.
5. Tom Hodges (TH) asked if the three relocatable classrooms near the pool would
work. He added that there is a lot of pressure to get the existing relocatable
classrooms out of the quad.
World Languages Discussion:
6. Kevin Duffy (KD), IS for World Languages, noted that there are currently 5 offices
for his group in the library but there are a total of 12 staff members in that
department. He added that being located in the office is not important as long as he
doesn’t lose the office space. KD also indicated that the layout offered in Building
700 is preferred.
7. TH shared some historical thoughts about Building 700:
• The existing Building 900 will eventually be demolished and replaced with the
new CTE building.

• As the proposed CTE building became smaller in area, the idea was that some
of the CTE programs and two additional science classrooms could be
accommodated in Building 700
• CTE programs that don’t require high bay spaces could be relocated in Building
700.
8. The classrooms in Building 300 are smaller than those in Building 400 and there is
concern that larger class sizes will be difficult to operate in the smaller spaces.
9. Building 400 has a specialty classroom which was designed specifically for the
special educational program use. Since it is relatively new, it could remain
regardless of the department that takes over Building 400.
10. Heather Johansen (HJ), IS for Special Education, indicated that they would like to
be in Building 700 because of the larger space and more centralized campus
location.
11. TH suggested the following: leave World Languages in Building 400 having the
ability in the future to expand into either Building 300 or into the new classroom
building. Phil Winston (PW) offered that he was fine with World Languages moving
into Building 700.
12. For library planning purposes, we can correctly assume that the English, Social
Studies, and World Languages program elements will move out of the existing
library. Determining their final locations is a separate discussion from the library
planning exercise.
13. PW offered the final thoughts, Building 300A/B to house the new culinary program
and the robotics program. World Languages moves to the Building 700 and Special
Education moves to Building 300. Building 400 becomes the expansion space. He
requested some time to review these ideas with the departments and will get back
to the team for further discussions.
