FACILITIES STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING
DATE: 05 October 2011, 3:30 – 4:00 pm
SUBJECT: Palo Alto HS Facilities Steering Committee

The following are the highlights of the meeting:
Introductions:
1. Phil Winston (PW) welcomed the committee, initiated the meeting and began
introductions for new people attending.
Construction Update - Media Arts Center & Classroom Building (Information):
2. Tim McBrian (TM) provided a summary of the construction work for the Media Arts
Center and Classroom Building:
• The projects are currently 2 month into construction. The site has been prepared
for building pads and utilities.
• A weather impact will be likely due to anticipated, upcoming rains.
• Paul Kandell (PK) asked what could be expected in the upcoming months
relative to noise. TM explained that the upcoming construction activities will be
installation of underground site utilities, such as storm drains and temporary hot
water/cold water site piping rerouting for the central plant.
• Phil Winston (PW) added that Jerry Berkson (JB), vice principal for facilities,
attends the weekly construction meeting and is informed of the scheduled
construction activities in advance. Also, audio enhancement devices have been
purchased for teacher impacted by the construction noise.
Boiler Replacement Project Status (Information):
3. Aimee Lopez (AL) explained the status of Boiler Replacement Project:
• Boiler replacement project was bid and bids were slightly below the budgeted
amount. It was explained that the boilers will be installed in phases so that a
boiler will be up and running at all times.
• Construction will impact the quad during the pipe installation, but activities will
be coordinated with staff and the school.

Stadium Improvement Project Update (Information):
4. TM explained the Athletic Stadium project status:
• The project is expected to be out to bid in a few weeks with construction starting
by the end of this year or early January 2012.
• An FSC member asked if the bleachers would be ready for next year. TM
explained that it was highly unlikely, but it all depends on the DSA review and
approval process.
Next Meetings (Information):
5. Next FSC meeting will be Nov. 2, 2011.
• A Paly PAC meeting is currently being scheduled
