Palo Alto High School Neighborhood MEETING
DATE: 26 May 2010, 6:30pm-8:00pm
SUBJECT: Palo Alto HS Neighborhood Meeting
ATTENDEES: See attached sign-in sheet
The following are the highlights of the meeting:
Landscape Master Plan
• Todd Young (TY) shared the progress of the landscape subcommittee meetings.
The scheme focused on the center quad around the existing student activities
building, with a rectilinear layout that is on the campus grid.
• TY also showed the main areas of the campus and the schemes for each area
including the entrances grates from Embarcadero and the campus circulation
patterns.
• A community member commented in regards to the traffic flow and back up, and
asked if it can be a one-way entrance from El Camino and out to Embarcadero.
Erwin Lee (EL) explained that parking modifications will be an improvement to
the area.
• A community member explained that the traffic lights are not synchronized and
will need to be in collaboration with the campus master plan.
New Theater
• Erwin Lee (EL) gave a power point presentation of the latest plans and design
studies of the new Theater (Schemes B and E) and recapped the progress
made by the Theater subcommittee. The highlights included:
• Theater has narrowed the design options to two, schemes B and E.
• Photos of the site show that the site is most visible from the intersection.
• Both schemes were shown with a site plan using the latest Landscape master
plan, plan diagrams of both floors, 3D aerial views showing relationship to the
campus, perspective views with photo overlay, and two 3D model views.
• Schemes B and E are both about 29,000 SF and incorporate the same program
elements..
• Scheme B takes design cues from Haymarket Theater. Its signature element is
a curved façade and a rotated house that helps to minimize the apparent mass
of the fly loft. It relates to the campus by using compositional elements found on
campus.
• Scheme E is a more frontal building with all masses parallel or perpendicular to
the campus buildings. Its signature element is a tall gable roofed lobby,
terminated by a grand staircase that continues the long roof lines of the Tower
Building.

Football Stadium and Improvements
• EL presented the last site plan that was shared with the stadium subcommittee and
the comments related to the plan. The currently proposed bleacher layout has
home bleachers with a seating capacity of approximately 1,470 and visitors with a
seating capacity of approximately 795.
The project proposes to include a new concession/bathroom building with storage
space for sports. 3D models were shown of this area.
