Projects under construction: Classroom Building A & B and New Gymnasium. 2. Phasing: Miranda Drop-Off project will be completed after the Classroom & Gym projects. 3. Schedule: a. Start of Construction: April/May 2013 (after Classroom Building A & B completion) b. Completion: Goal of August 2013 (prior to start of new school year) but depends on DSA and planning. 4. Conceptual Development Plan: a. Tree protection requirements to be fully incorporated. Arborist will need to review the plans to make determination of tree protection needs. b. Bike access items: i. Miranda/Foothill Numerous bikes access the campus from the Miranda/Foothill intersection. Critical that the vehicular and bicycle circulation is separated and safe. ii. Consider providing bike storage near the Miranda/Foothill entry. However, security is a concern in this location because of its proximity to Arastradero and that there are few classroom windows on this side of the buildings. iii. Bicycle counts to be verified from previous studies and information provided. Conceptual Development Review Meeting Gunn High School 24 April 2012 Page 2 iv. The question was asked if it would be possible to provide a connection to existing foothill bike path. This may be difficult due to the different property owners involved. v. Consider possibility of adding another sidewalk on Arastradero side of entry drive. This would reduce conflicts with auto traffic exiting and entering the drop-off. c. Vehicle entry/exit: add “no left turn” at exit d. Turnaround/Drop-off: i. increase radius of turn to reduce difficulty maneuvering through turnaround ii. Overall configuration is fine but may need to be revised due to tree radius required from the trunk of the tree to the concrete curb. e. Traffic Engineer items: i. Queue requirements for entry into drop-off ii. What is the vehicular capacity of the drop-off iii. Verification of applicable City/County traffic requirements iv. The District will need to retain a traffic engineer to study and determine the patterns and the capacity through the drop-off at peak times. f. Provide a pedestrian path along the backside of Auto Shop yard to the new Classroom Building A. Currently the students walk in the middle of the access road. The existing covered walkway and stair between Spanegenberg and the Art Building will impede pedestrian circulation to new Building A. It is not scheduled to be removed in the current scope of construction. Consider possible ways to mitigate the impact of the stair. g. Electrical yard to be removed and remaining vault replaced with traffic rated type 5. Next Steps: a. Prepare composite circulation plan for cars, bicycles and pedestrians b. Review tree size, canopy drip lines and recommendations from arborist c. Study potential improvements that the removal of the lockers may provide to the project.
