PROGRAM MEETING NOTES
DATE: 4 June 2009
SUBJECT: World Languages: Program Meeting No.3
ATTENDEES: Anne Jensen, GHS Tom Hodges, OCMI/PAUSD
Tom Jacoubowsky, GHS Aimee Lopez, OCMI/PAUSD
Erwin Lee, DLM
The purpose of the meeting was to review a revised plan diagram of the new classroom
building for World Languages. The following are the highlights of the meeting:
1. Erwin provided a handout that showed a partial site plan with the new Classroom
Building B. Also included in the handout was a revised, conceptual plan diagram.
2. The new plan showed the development of the office and classroom areas as well as the
covered, outdoor classroom pull-out area.
3. The plan includes a Resource Room that opens to the patio that will be used for
students and teachers. The Resource Room will have a kitchenette to prepare foods.
Exploring foods from various cultures is a key component of the languages curriculum.
The outdoor spaces will be heavily used for these activities.
4. Erwin indicated that there is flexibility in the plan and that there will be plenty of
opportunity to make adjustments. The purpose of reviewing the plan is to make sure
that the critical program requirements are included and that the relationship of them to
each other is what is desired.
5. A relatively young, existing memorial tree will need to be boxed and transplanted
because it’s within the proposed building footprint. However, a larger tree is also in the
building footprint and would need to me removed as well. DLM will investigate alternate
plan configurations that will avoid the tree.
6. It was determined by Anne that the decision to convert the sixth classroom into the
World Languages offices will not negatively affect the classroom count for the World
Languages Department. The sixth classroom will eventually be recovered in
subsequent projects. However, for the immediate need there are adequate classrooms
available to house the program. It’s important to the program that the offices are
centrally located to the classrooms which the proposed location will provide.
