PROGRAM MEETING NOTES
DATE: 22 May 2009
SUBJECT: World Languages: Program Meeting No.2
ATTENDEES: Anne Jensen, GHS Sonia Stroessner, GHS
Carole Stroud, GHS Tom Jacoubowsky, GHS
Paul Stickney, OCMI/PAUSD Erwin Lee, DLM
The purpose of the meeting was to review a plan diagram of the world languages
department's new classroom building. The following are the highlights of the meeting:
1. Erwin provided a handout that showed a partial site plan from the Master Plan. Also
included in the handout was a revised, conceptual plan diagram in the same location.
2. The new plan diagram rotated the breezeway so that it runs east/west in lieu of
north/south. This configuration allows all classrooms to be entered from the breezeway
as well as provides for operable windows on opposing walls for cross ventilation. The
large, skylight covered breezeway can also be used for pull out instruction as an
extension of the classroom. A small patio area is located adjacent to the staff area on
the eastside of the building.
3. From the previous meeting, the world languages offices and staff area is now located in
this building. One classroom has been devoted to staff functions. The sixth classroom
will be located in an existing building adjacent to other world language classrooms.
4. Tom Jacoubowsky noted that air conditioning is not the standard for Gunn HS. This
needs to be investigated further to determine what the most current thinking is.
5. The staff area is located at the corner so that there is some design flexibility in size and
configuration as the program and building develops. The staff offices should
accommodate approximately 18 desk (accounts for growth—currently 12 full time staff).
Individual offices are not necessary.
6. The staff area should have a kitchenette with a garbage disposal. A dishwasher and
range is desirable but not necessary. The classes explore cooking from different
cultures and these appliances would help. A folding partition between the staff area
and a work area is desirable.
7. A conference room to accommodate 4-6 is necessary since the desks are in an open
space with little privacy.
8. A vestibule or reception area is desirable to prevent students and visitors from entering
directly into the office area.
