Item # Notes
5.1 Front of school
a. Existing brick planters do not have irrigation. Include adding this in scope of
work.
b. Scope of work to include a tensile shade structure outside the conference room.
c. Existing trees by conference room (two) to remain. All others to be replaced for a
better and fast growing species.
d. Entry canopy option two (curved) was preferred.
e. Proposed design was accepted with a request to graphically show larger accent
trees. AEDIS clarified that 36” box trees will be specified.
5.2 Sundial
a. Proposed design was accepted.
b. New benches around court to have concrete pad around.
5.3 Cafeteria Patio
a. “Sail” sun structures were proposed and accepted. There were concerns on
durability of the fabric. AEDIS explained these are DSA approved structures
were used in school location. These could be subject to vandalism but are heavy
duty designed.
b. Proposed design was accepted with the request of extending the shade to the
area left opened by the removal of the covered walkway.
5.4 New Students courtyard
a. No changes have been proposed other than centering the stage and seating
steps in relation to basket ball courts (to avoid hoops and posts interfering with
views).
b. Mrs. Gordon suggested a convex layout for the seating steps instead of concave.
Staff liked the idea as it would allow more seating space.

5.5 Basketball courts
a. Option 4 with groups of three courts was preferred by staff including PE and
music. Re-orienting one court would be considered based on available space.
This option keeps courts close to the buildings with easy access to power
outlets.
b. Size of basketball courts shown follow the size of existing ones on site. Mrs
Ingels noted that the standard size for middle school basketball courts is smaller
at 74' x 42'.
c. It was explained that blacktop area is used for a large number of varied PE
activities and academic programs such as electric car designs.
d. Brad Booth, electrical car engineering teacher, explained that his program uses
1½ basketball courts under current layout conditions that requires coordination
and sharing of space with PE teachers. He expressed concerns that the
reduction of hardscape will make this sharing more difficult, especially with the
growth of student population.
e. An alternate design was proposed by Mrs. Gordon which showed trees in
between courts. Staff expressed this would not work for the activities planned for
this area. An area with trees along the east side of wing 000a had been studied
by the design team but was not responsive to program needs.
f. Mr Ingels also noted that Terman MS and Jordan MS have bike cages to the
periphery of campus. This opens possibilities to provide more shade in eating
areas.
g. Proposed design was accepted by staff with no further comments from the four
landscape committee representatives.
5.6 Next Steps
a. PAUSD Board of Education follow up presentation on September 28th.
