Design Considerations – Rooms 620 and 630
a. Provide sound barrier between adjoining classrooms.
b. Spaces to handle (32) students max.
c. Both rooms should be laid out similar to room 610. No peninsula style lab tables. All lab
tables should be along the perimeter walls with space between each table for easy access
to and around the lab tables. Each table to handle (4) students with cabinets above some
of the tables, not all of them. Gas should be provided along with power and data at each
table.
d. A continuous counter top along the perimeter is not preferred.
e. (4) sinks for student use is needed and (1) at the teacher demonstration table. Student
sinks to be located at the student lab tables.
f. Overhead projectors and screens desired to be installed in all (6) science classrooms. Re-use
the existing projection screens where possible and add new screens where missing. TV’s
will not be needed as long as the projector and screen can project movies that are easy to
watch.

g. A teaching wall was requested in rooms 620 and 630. The teaching wall to include
sliding marker boards and a sliding Smart Board. Locate the Smart Board in such a
manner that the overhead projector and screen and Smart Board can all be accessed
simultaneously. A speaker on either side of the teacher wall on the framed walls was
requested.
h. The teachers’ demonstration table should be located to one side of the teaching wall so
the teacher does not block the view of the students when teaching. The table to include
1) a sink 2) power and data 3) gas and 4) storage below. Provide an additional power
outlet on the face of the table towards the students. This table should be around 6’ long.
i. Marker boards should also be provided on other wall(s) within the rooms.
j. Provide tackable wall surface where available.
k. If possible, windows should be added.
l. There are existing skylights over rooms 600, 610, 640 and 650. Rooms 620 and 630 do
not have skylights and they are not needed, at this time.
m. Additional storage cabinets would be ideal. The staff needs to review an initial design to
determine quantity and location based on the student lab table locations and teaching wall
location.
n. For flooring material, VCT is preferred over carpet.
1.4
Next meeting
a. Provide a preliminary plan based on the above design considerations. In addition, show
the plan with options on how the demonstration table can be arranged in the room. And
showing the front of the room in different locations.
b. Date and time TBD.
