Item # Notes
2b.1
Scheme 1
Design
Intent
Feedback
Proposed Design – Scheme 1 (straight floor plan):
Design Intent
a. Classroom wing laid out as a straight linear wing to continue to the school context.
b. All classrooms have the same orientation, allowing equidistant entry doors.
c. Clerestories were placed on the teaching side of the classroom. These would face north-
west. Sun angle will be calculated to confirm that no direct light goes into the rooms before
3pm.
d. Restroom core and conference room where placed at the end to provide architectural
accents in the massing.
e. The Conference Room is approx. 600 SF and could hold an 18-people meeting. It was
placed on the north end in order to be more centrally located in reference to the campus.
f. Since restrooms are at the south end of building C, the new restroom core will be placed
on the south end of the new building. Fixture count is still to be confirmed.
g. An alcove is provided for additional counter space that would give opportunity for display
and or group break out.
Comments
h. Provide visual blockade at the end of the building next to the restrooms to divert students,
parents, etc…from entering the space behind the M and H wings.
i. Positive comments on classroom layout as it shows more flexibility for arranging the
space.
j. Might allow for more flexibility for storage and cabinet area linear run.
k. Front of building is preferred in this scheme for easy access and supervision.
l. Keep built in counters in alcove and try option with an open space

Scheme 2
Design
Intent
Feedback
Proposed Design – Scheme 2 (rotated floor plan):
Design Intent
a. Classroom wing laid out at 45° angle to have clerestories face true north. This plan
presents a dynamic layout with “ins and outs” for planting areas.
b. All classrooms have the same orientation, allowing equidistant entry doors.
c. An alcove is also provided for additional counter space.
d. Restroom core and conference room where placed at the end to provide architectural
accents in the massing.
Comments
a. Alcove break out area is too close to the front of the classroom and it could be distracting.
May be make the alcove the wet area and leave the back for counter space for break our
group.
b. The ins and outs of this scheme might present supervision problems on the parking lot
side.
c. Entry door is preferred on the back of the classroom and not on the side of the teaching
wall.
d. Shared door in between classroom: It could encourage teaming between groups but it
would take usable space. There would be a door by the teaching wall. It will be shown
dashed for now. The shared door worked better when the classrooms were mirrored in
pairs.
e. Counter and storage run are more broken.
f. Not sure where the teachers’ desk would be placed
2b.3 Traffic and Parking Area:
a. No drop off area in the Middlefield Rd parking lot to discourage traffic in pedestrian paths.
b. May be move the bus drop off to this pkg lot to lighten the traffic on the front loop drop off
area.
c. Consider having the shuttles’ drop off in this area to lighten the traffic of students on the
California Rd drop off area.
d. Consider wide lanes to allow circulation and cars backing up.
e. The new curb cut for exiting the parking lot should be aligned with the existing traffic light
and should be “right turn only”. The current pedestrian traffic would be left on the north
side of this and could present a problem.
2b.4 Other considerations:
a. Students are dismissed at 3:05 pm.
2b.5 Next Steps
a. Scheme 1 is the preferred on and will be developed for next meeting.
b. Next meeting will be scheduled for after October 21st when the topographic information is
received.
