Item # Notes
1b.1 Building Location:
a. The preferred building placement, as approved by the PAUSD Board, was by the G-wing
in a north-south orientation, parallel to Middlefield Rd.
b. The space between the new wing and G-wing will retain the existing trees and will an have
enlarged landscaped area.
c. Current parking lot is +/-68 stalls and revised will be +/-53 stalls with a ingle loop parking
with 90 degree stalls. One-way only driveways.
1b.2
Proposed Design:
a. The design suggested pairs of classrooms in a ”mirrored” lay out. A recessed entry area to
each classroom was created but it is a concern that it is not big enough to hold the traffic
of adjoining classrooms. Entry to classrooms should be more spread out and alcove
situations should be avoided for supervision purposes.
b. Daylighting was prioritized with north-facing clerestories. And operable windows in
opposite walls were proposed to improve natural ventilation. Clerestories will be placed on
the same wall of the teaching area to avoid glare.
c. Counter space was proposed at the back of each classroom with space for base cabinets
and a sink.
d. A shared Teachers’ office was proposed in between the paired classrooms. This could be
used as a break out space however; an open space is preferred to facilitate supervision.
Also, some of the storage should be accessible to students. It was decided that the
teachers’ private office is not needed and this space should be integrated with the
classroom. Maybe include a break out / reading nook space.
e. Teaching wall is not preferred. Locate smart board at front of room with fixed marker
boards on either side.
f. A shared interior door might be a good idea as sometimes students switch to adjoining
classrooms.
g. A conference room and a restroom cores were placed in between pairs of classrooms. An
overall fixtures count still needs to be done to confirm amount needed a the new restroom.

1b.3
Other Programmatic Items:
a. A 6th grade class will have 25 to 28 students.
b. Building to be designed to house 6th graders at a minimum, but may be used for 7/8th
graders.
c. Review quantity of storage.
d. Single sink in each classroom.
e. Teaching wall is not preferred. Locate smart board at front of room with fixed marker
boards on either side.
f. Smart board with ceiling mounted projector.
g. Wireless lap top carts are used. Desktop computers are not preferred.
h. Display area is important for 6th graders.
i. On one side of the teaching wall there could be DVD, CD and video connected to the LCD
projector. Teachers to use movable counter/podiums. It would be good to place floor
power boxes at each side of the teaching wall. Projectors would be ceiling mounted
approximately 15’ away from the teaching board.
