Item # Notes
Cafeteria, “M” Wing and Science Wing - Design Meeting #1
1a.1 Planned Uses
a. The existing Cafetorium will be expanded towards the fields. The spaces should be
geared towards drama, music and assemblies. On rainy days, the space will be used for
PE.
b. The Art classroom H6 will relocate to the M-Wing.
c. The science wing will be renovated to include HV upgrades throughout as well as G1,G2
and G3 will be converted to two new science rooms.
1a.2
Schedule was discussed that the Schematic Design phase will be completed in December 2009.
1a.3
New Music and Band classrooms
a. When the M1 and M2 functions move to the cafeteria, one space should be larger that the
other one. Probably with a 60/40 ratio.
b. Music would like additional space for sectionals beyond the size of the new band rooms.
These should be two half-size classrooms for 12 to 15 students.
c. Provide sound proofing between spaces including between the stage and the new band
rooms.
d. Prefer to have the larger band room adjacent to the stage for easier access to stage.
Change in level should be considered when loading instruments to the stage.
e. Classrooms L2 and L3 will remain as is.
f. Architect to evaluate with structural engineer the possibility of carving windows in the
existing structure for natural light on the new music rooms.

1a.4
New Auditorium
a. PE prefers to have all the tennis courts (6) rearranged to fit between the existing pool and
the new expansion. Space may encroach into fire lane or fields.
b. Students do not eat in the existing cafeteria and will not eat in the new space. The kitchen
being farther away from the new expansion is acceptable.
c. The new expansion should not be called “Cafeteria” it should be called “Auditorium”.
d. Walls should be durable and acoustically correct. PE will occur in this space and the walls
and ceilings need to withstand balls and students.
e. Possible ticket booth or area outside that is covered to sell tickets, food and beverage
during dances, intermission for drama.
f. It would be nice to extend the patio with tables along the side of the new space as well.
g. Storage is needed in the new expansion for drama, tables, chairs, costumes, etc….The
square needed footage will include the existing cargo container sizes plus more square
feet. The cargo containers are to be removed.
h. Since the stage will be “flipped” to face the opposite way, current lighting fixtures should
be transferred to the new space.
i. Folding tables and chairs should remain stored under the stage.
j. It would be nice to have a storage space to keep materials for the “temporary control
booth).
1a.5
Existing M Wing Conversion to Art Wing
a. One room will be dedicated to 2D studio (painting) and the other to 3D studio (ceramics).
b. The rooms will need electrical upgrades, sinks with clay traps and vented area for kilns.
c. The existing concrete raiser should be removed from room M1.
1a.6
Science
a. Prep rooms need to be reorganized with better storage, a meeting space and proper
circulation. Space should include a lab table for mixing chemicals. Review the kitchen
area and equipment as possible upgrades. Fume hood maybe needed.
b. New room layout should include perimeter sinks and gas outlets with counter tops
extending into the space in an island fashion. Design for (32) students with (4) students
per station.
c. Gas outlets on the perimeter walls, NOT ON THE COUNTER TOPS.
d. Include a teacher demonstration table with sink and gas outlet. Coordinate location of
table in connection with a smart board or LED ceiling mounted projector setup. Site
currently utilizes smart board in their classrooms.
e. Existing HV to be upgraded within the existing spaces.
f. Eye wash / shower will be needed.
g. Roof exhausts are being considered for improving ventilation. Teachers expressed
concerns about noise of these fans.
h. New windows are preferred.
