This will be easy to achieve if we all work together and follow some simple rules. Please refer to the Drop-Off Map and the Duveneck Area Traffic and Alternative Drop Off Map on the other side of this flyer. FOR EVERYONE 1. Arrive to school early – even 5 minutes means avoiding most of the congestion. 2. Review safety practices with your children and practice traveling the route to school. 3. Walk, bike or scooter to school if possible. DRIVING TO SCHOOL 1. If driving, use only the designated drop-off areas. If dropping off in front of the school office, follow the traffic flow shown on Drop-Off Map on the other side of this flyer. Pull your vehicle up all the way to the front of the drop-off zone to allow room for others. It is ok to let your kids out anywhere in the drop-off zone once out of the street. You don’t need to be at the front of the zone. 2. NO PARKING or DROP-OFF along RED-PAINTED CURBS. Parking in red zones blocks the visibility of drivers at intersections, creating a risk for pedestrians in a crosswalk as well as oncoming traffic. 3. DO NOT DROP OFF AT THE KINDERGARTEN GATE. This is a red zone. 4. DO NOT DOUBLE-PARK for drop-off. Pull over to the curb or use a designated drop-off area. Double- parking blocks bike lanes, forcing bikes and cars out into the street and oncoming traffic, and puts your children at risk as they exit the vehicle. 5. NO U-TURNS on Channing – these are ILLEGAL. 6. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE ON DANA during drop off and pick up times. It is too narrow for pedestrian/bicycle access and car access. Use either Hamilton or Channing instead. 7. PLEASE AVOID TURNING ONTO ALESTER FROM HAMILTON. The crosswalks across Alester at Dana and at Hamilton are busy and can be dangerous. The crosswalk at Hamilton doesn’t have a crossing guard, and teachers serve as crossing guards at Alester and Dana. Parking on Hamilton and walking is a much safer option. 8. Safe alternative drop off areas are indicated on the Duveneck area map on the back side of this flyer. 9. Have your children ready to get out of the car as soon as you pull into a designated drop-off area – back- packs on laps, kisses at home! WALKING TO SCHOOL, BIKES AND SCOOTERS 1. Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and rollerblades are not allowed to be ridden on the school grounds between 7:30am and 3:00pm on school days. Walk your wheels! 2. Use the crosswalks – don’t cross in the middle of Channing or Alester. CROSSING GUARDS An Adult Crossing Guard will be on duty approximately one-half hour before and after school at the Newell and Dana intersection and at the Alester and Channing intersection.
