JL 3 additional classrooms will be included in this scope and could be potentially used for Special Day Classes, mutli-grade combination classes, or for looping teacher classes. JL Strong community support already exists for the Alester Avenue campus entry/public way and the kinder area. 1.3 Site Plan Options All options include new larger Administration building and larger Multi-purpose building with stage area. The campus main entry occurs at the Alester Avenue crosswalk. Option A: Day Kinder Care (DKC) is clustered with the Kindergarten classrooms. New classroom building is angled and has 20’ of redtop space on ground and upper level. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are clustered together in new building. Parking is located in a lot next to the library, behind the new classroom building, and along the fire lane. Duveneck ES 1004.00 Meeting Notes 2 of 3 Option B: Day Kinder Care (DKC) is clustered with the Kindergarten classrooms. New classroom building is curved and has 20’ of redtop space on ground and upper level. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are clustered together in new building. Parking is located in a lot next to the library, behind the new classroom building and along the fire lane. Option C: Day Kinder Care (DKC) is located in the original proposed location. Kindergarten area is now paired with 1st grade including an additional classroom allowing for one less classroom in new upper grades classroom building. New classroom building is linear with staggered classrooms to allow for individual classroom outdoor space. 4th and 5th grades are clustered together in new building. Parking is located in a lot next to the library and behind the new classroom building. Option D: Day Kinder Care (DKC) is clustered with the Kindergarten classrooms. New classroom building is linear with staggered classrooms to allow for individual classroom outdoor space. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are clustered together in new building. There is one additional classroom in this option in comparison to Option C. Parking is located in a lot next to the library and behind new classroom building. Option E: Day Kinder Care (DKC) is clustered with the Kindergarten classrooms and new 1st grade classrooms. New classroom building is linear with staggered classrooms to allow for individual classroom outdoor space. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are clustered together in new building. There is one additional classroom in this option in comparison to Option C. Parking is located in a lot next to the library and behind new classroom building. 1.4 Discussion and Comments . New Classroom Building: New classroom building feels too “heavy” with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades all in one building. New scheme should have a “primary wing” and an “intermediate wing.” Option C feels less “heavy” and concentrated. Meeting Notes 3 of 3 All 3’s should be located together in existing intermediate grade block. 4’s and 5’s should be in new building. Staggered classrooms in Options C, D and E allow for alcoves for circulation, entry and individual classroom outdoor space. Also enables adjacencies to other classrooms. Visibility, security and lighting at new building is a concern. Option A does not allow for visibility in this area from Channing. Lighting options (constantly on or motion sensors) will be explored. The new building in Option B takes up the least amount of turf area which is ideal. Individual classroom outdoor space in the new building is a priority. If possible, a larger group area on the second level should be included. However, this larger group area should not impact the individual classroom areas. Lunch areas will be located on the ground level for ease of supervision. An L-shaped scheme incorporating staggering of classrooms will be explored as new option. Kindergarten, 1st, DKC Area: All 1’s should be located adjacent to each other in Option C. Toilet and Reading rooms should be mirrored to other side of block. DKC could be replaced with K or 1st grade classrooms to keep the area enclosed in Option E. Parking: Remove double loaded parking in fire lane parking lot (replace with single loaded) and replace parking along fire lane. Parking along Alester Avenue will be revisited. Parking could potentially be added adjacent to the library where existing trees are located. The fire lane gate could be shifted further into the campus to allow for unlocked parking at the beginning of the fire lane. 1.5 Future Dates October 13 at 3pm End of Meeting Notes These notes will be considered substantially correct and complete unless otherwise notified in writing within five working days of receipt.
