Food service circulation for students should be controlled as PE occurs right after lunch time and usually there is a lot of food spills. - Pending light fixtures should not be placed too low as there is a lot of tossing during activities (bean bags, etc.) - The storage would be used for chairs and tables. The stage would be approximately 18” and there would not be enough space to store tables under it. - Access ramp to stage should be wide enough to carry raisers up. - The stage should have enough outlets. - Make proscenium as wide as possible. Curtains will control openings. - There should be a storage space right off from stage for TV carts, raisers, Tables, etc. - Flooring: if tile or VCT is used, there could be design with color and/or patterns to define aisles for assemblies. Colors should be medium to dark. - MP room: Provide whiteboard (without a marker tray, needs to be flat), projector and large screen (preferably not at stage), art display area on walls, speakers in four areas for surround sound. - There should be a small closet for boom box. - Provide outlets for laptop usage. - Staff bathroom is not needed. - Look at possibility of having ramp accessible from outside for backstage access - Access to MP should be away from Admin entry to avoid bottleneck effect. Renovation and New Construction DATE: 3/19/09 MEETING: Detail User Group Meeting PROJECT NO: 28067.00 Page 2 of 4 2 Food Service/Kitchen: - An office is needed within the Kitchen area with shelving. - Workstation at the end of speed line with internet access for sale point. Each student will have a bar code for scanning and rapid transaction. - Prep tables on wheels. Two 5’ tables. Mobile equipment - Access from outside delivery - 2-door cooler - 3-compartment sink and a produce sink. - Two warming units. Oven and stove (warming only) - Milk warmer - Speed line should be double loaded. 6’ salad bar and 6’ hot cart/steam table. - Dry good storage - Garbage and recycling. Provide can wash area. 3 Outdoor Play Area - (E) blacktop needs to be leveled. Equipment goes to swales. - Put trees along the blacktop edge for shading. - Circles and squares painted on blacktop. - Move play structure areas together and visible from entry plaza. - Basketball hoops: two low baskets and two full courts. - Trail around soccer field for “walk club” - Space for tether ball - Growing garden is preferred on the covered walkway side (not along blacktop) - Eating Areas for 12 classrooms at a minimum, that is 24 tables. 4 Flex Room - It should stay as a flexible space with no specific function for science or art room. This space will be used as visual and performance activities, break up space, some art programs, guests speakers, parent Ed programs among others. - Furniture should be flexible for multiple functions. - Lockable storage is needed. - A prep area for Art is needed with secured storage and access from outside as well from the flex room. Space for a small kiln (36”x24”). Art activities will occur every day up to four teachers at a time. Storage for four carts are needed. Art occurs in classrooms. Ceramics for 4th and 5th might occur at Flex Room. - Storage for science bins. - Science and Art storage could be shared. - Music teaching space only needs 250 SF. It is a one day/week activity. - Provide a dedicated space to store laptop carts with electrical charge possibilities. Each cart holds 32 laptops. A total of six carts would be appropriate. - The art coordinator presented a list of storage and shelving that would be ideal to have in the art storage area. See attachment 1. PROJECT: Garland E.S. Guidance and Counseling – Needs space for 4 or 5 students, file cabinets and a desk. 2. English Language Learner (ELL) – Needs space for 4 or 5 students. 12’x12’ space? 3. Resource – This is a small classroom. May be 250 SF 4. Speech and Language – Needs to be close to entry to reduce student circulation in Admin areas. And close to counseling. 5. Reading Specialist – could be located in Library but close to Admin bldg. - Reception Area: counter with different heights accessible to students and adults. Privacy for secretary from transaction counter. Mailboxes are checked twice a day and should be close to secretary and easy access for staff. - Waiting Area: Display area, wall calendar. Space for misbehaved students.. - Principal’s Office: needs to accommodate 4 to 5 people. Needs a door from the outside. - Conference Room: needs to accommodate 8 to 10 people. Countertop for coffee. Wireless access for laptops. - See attachment 2. 6 Maintenance/Custodial - Storage for large equipment (power washer, two floor machines, carpet removal) and flammable supplies. - Need main office with shelving, a desk and phone access. Make the staff restroom at MP a custodial office with mop sink. - There is currently a custodial closet in each building. New closets need floor sinks to dump liquids (not wall sinks) with good ventilation or exhaust fans. - Storage should have hook up for washer and dryer. - Provide outlets and water access in the exterior of the bldgs. Two in each side of (N) bldg. They should be able to lock during weekends. Provide one on (E) wing. 7 Library - Outdoor reading area could be done in the seating walls at covered walkway. - Provide a primary reading section (seating for 20 to 23 kids). - Provide tables and seating for 32 to 34 upper grade kids. Classroom set up with white board. - Workroom should have space for a computer, a sink and book storage. - Library at Fair Meadow is a good example. - Provide a computer area for at least 6 stations. - Circulation desk should seat two people at the same time. - Space for a volume of 12,000 books at least. - Provide display area (on walls and from ceiling). - See attached file. 8 Primary Classrooms - Sink location preferred in a corner. - Break out area for 4 to 5 students. - Counter space for projects - Chemistry for 4th and 5th classrooms. Need drinking fountain. - Drinking fountain at sinks. - Computer stations for 3 or 4 only. Place computer desks along garden wall. - Countertops and shelving for K-3 should be sized for small kids. K=24” to 30”; grades 1to5=30” - Teachers’ closet is great. - Internet wireless access has a 30’ to 60’ radius - Provide two outlets set up high - An IDF/MDFR closet should be provided at the end of the new wing. Minimize grouting in restrooms. Continuous epoxy flooring is preferred.
