Two SDC Classrooms were added to the program. b. An U10 soccer field was shown measuring 60x40yd (180’x120’). 5.2 Options Study A MP bldg at the front Flex room at MP bldg Library at the end of the existing north-south wing Admin offices at the north end of the new two-story building Existing admin converted into two classrooms Comments a. Admin centrally located but away from entry. Not clear for visitors. b. Classrooms per grades would be fragmented Study B MP bldg at the front Flex room at MP bldg Admin offices at the north end of the existing north-south wing Library at the north end of the new two-story building, detached on the first floor to allow “gateway” from admin towards fields for supervision. Existing admin converted into two classrooms Comments a. Admin located at the front of the school but supervision is limited by the new building on the fields’ side. Focus should be made to sightlines both at the entry of the school and the fields. b. Classrooms per grades would be fragmented. Study C MP bldg at the front Flex room at MP bldg Admin offices remain in current location with an expansion to get SF per program Library at the end of the existing north-south wing New two-story wing is 100% classrooms, including two SDCs. PROJECT: Garland E.S. Renovation and Additions DATE: 01/30/09 MEETING: Design Committee Mtg # 5 PROJECT NO: 28067.00 Page 2 of 2 Comments a. This scheme best achieves sightlines from admin to the entry of the school and the play areas. b. It would be easier to configure the grade levels. c. This is the preferred option Study D MP bldg at the front Flex room at MP bldg Admin offices and Library in one detached building, at the north end of the existing north-south wing which would be shorten. New two-story building still placed parallel to the existing wing but as much close to the fence with Jordan MS as possible. Entry to campus would be between the classroom wings and the admin/Library building. Existing admin converted into two classrooms Comments a. Supervision sightlines still compromised. b. Space on the north side and on the south side of the admin/Library building would not be very efficient. 5.3 2-story Vertical circulation should be centrally located. 5.4 Program - Provide considerations for natural light and temperature control in the classrooms. - Gates might be needed at the end of the corridors for security purposes after school hours. - Special attention should be taken to prohibit access to the existing roofs from the new two-story building. - If space allows, it would be good to have in K thru 3rd grades an outdoor garden or learning area. - Reading nooks would be good too (both indoor & outdoor). 5.5 Next Steps - Community Meeting on February 2nd. - AEDIS to develop an Option 7 with considerations of Study C.
