The following new items were discussed:
New Items Action By ITEM
2.1 Scope/ Program fyi Bond proposal is to replace 6 existing portable classrooms and provide 6 new
classrooms for a total of 12 new classrooms on site. This will bring Hays to a
5-strand school capacity
fyi Hays currently has 500 students. Increasing to a 5-strand school would raise
enrollment to around 600 students. Master plan currently projects an
enrollment of 520 total students. Current classroom size is 20 students.
fyi Current MP room is too small for existing enrollment. A larger MP room must
be able to serve PE and cafeteria functions.
fyi There is a desire to have more small meeting areas on campus. “Pull-away”
spaces for one on one tutoring and small group meetings would be beneficial.
A small web room is currently used for these activities.
fyi There is a need for a designated space for staff meetings on campus.
Currently the library is used for staff meetings. A conference room near the
MP room would be a desirable location. There is currently a small staff
lounge on campus.
fyi The campus needs more classroom storage. Closets and bookshelves in
classrooms are desired.
fyi There is a need for a place to eat on rainy days. There is currently an
outdoor, tented area to eat lunch. Students currently eat in classrooms on
rainy days, which causes problems with food allergies.
fyi Traffic drop-off and parking are difficult on campus. PAUSD/ GPA to
investigate possibility of off-site parking solutions at neighboring museum and
park. Converting one lane of Middlefield road to parallel parking would be
desirable. Possibility of demolishing current first grade classroom for more
parking was suggested.
fyi 70-80% of students walk or bike to campus.
Fyi/PAUSD Classroom additions beyond 10 classrooms require and environmental
mitigation impact study. This study can add 8 – 10 months to the design
schedule. GPA suggests considering added time when scheduling schools
for Bond and starting Hays design early on.
PAUSD Increased capacity may require additional day care portable beyond 2 existing
on campus.
2.2 Site Layout fyi Possible scheme would add 2 story, 11 classroom U or bar shaped building
for 4th and 5th grades. 3 new kindergarten classrooms could be added to
existing classrooms and create kindergarten play area. First grade rooms
converted to MP room and teacher flex room. New 2nd grade classroom
added to existing 2nd grade rooms. 1st and 3rd grades in main pod building.
